Land Use Planning & Zoning

The Department of Land Use Planning and Zoning oversees and coordinates services for the Gila River Indian Community by enforcing the Homesite, Subdivision, Livestock, Native Plant, Sign & Billboard, Zoning and Trespass Ordinances.

The Department administers the Land Development Procedures, General Land Use Plan, Seven Districts Master Plan, Flood Control Drainage Manual, Land Surveying Standards and Land Acquisition Policy, as well as overseeing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) components for the Community and Community departments such as addressing and recording land records within the Community Geodatabase for reference.

Admin & Support Team

The Department of Land Use Planning and Zoning (the Department) – Admin & Support team provides a wide variety of administrative and logistical support to LUPZ. The Department oversees and coordinates services for the Gila River Indian Community by enforcing the Homesite, Subdivision,Livestock, Native Plant, Sign & Billboard, Zoning and Trespass Ordinances as well as administering the Land Development Procedures, General Land Use Plan, Seven Districts MasterPlan, Flood Control Drainage Manual, Land Surveying Standards and Land Acquisition Policy.

Flood Control & Engineering

At Land Use Planning and Zoning(LUPZ)-Flood Control Engineering, we are the responsible for planning, design, regulation, operation, maintenance, and construction of flood control infrastructure within the Gila River Indian Community. Our services include civil engineering design and review, site plan development, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and contracting services for drainage studies, designs, maintenance, and construction.

Livestock

The mission of the livestock team is to support and promote the ranching and livestock industry on the Gila River Indian Community. We promote the industry in a way that encourages ranching and agribusiness, while protecting the people, animals and natural resources of the community.

Ordinance

The Department of Land Use Planning and Zoning-Ordinance team is tasked with the monitoring, enforcement and protection of the Land and its Natural and Cultural Resources within the boundaries of the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC).

Planning Development

The Planning Development Team (PDT) is responsible of administrating technical reviews and responses to developers request regarding zoning ordinances and violations.

Realty Services

The Realty Services Team provides expertise in real estate and other right of way matters that pertain to Gila River Indian Community, tribal departments and the community members. Realty Services is responsible for obtaining the survey, appraisal, acquisition, and management of property acquired for public right-of-way projects. The Realty Services Team assists our community members in acquiring legal access as well as an infrastructure corridors to their home sites located on allotted lands.

Subdivision Administration

The Land Use Planning and Zoning Department(LUPZ), Subdivision Administration Team manages Tribal lots within the Gila River Indian Community.

Survey Team

The Department of Land Use Planning and Zoning–Land Surveying team provides services to Tribal Departments, Tribal Entities and the Bureau of Indian Affairs by providing surveying, field work and staking, and CAD drafting to produce completed surveys.

Geographic Information Systems

The Land Use Planning and Zoning Department – Geographic Information System (GIS) Team coordinates the development, management and implementation of the Geographic Information System for the Gila River Indian Community. GIS manages physical addressing, which directly supports the E911 system.
